An Alabama sublease agreement allows a tenant to rent to a subtenant with the permission of the landlord. A sublease is not an ideal situation for a landlord but is better than not having a tenant at all. Most leases prohibit the act of subletting, although if the tenant has no other means to pay the monthly rent, a landlord may allow it. Under a sublease, the tenant, not the landlord, is responsible for the subtenant following the terms of the lease. This means if rent is not paid by the subtenant, the tenant remains liable to pay the landlord each month as stated in the original lease.
