A tenant rejection letter is sent to a tenant when being turned down after applying for housing. The letter contains the reason for rejection and information on where the tenant can obtain the consumer reports that were used in the process. This is a requirement under 15 U.S. Code § 1681m that allows a tenant to obtain a copy of their credit report within sixty (60) days of the report date after completing a rental application.
Overcoming Rejection
If the tenant is being denied for monetary purposes, then they still may be able to salvage the deal. If the rejected tenant has a family member that could co-sign the lease or pre-pay some of the months, that can sometimes sway the decision of a landlord. Don’t be afraid to reach out and see if a deal can be had under different terms.
