A security deposit receipt is given to a tenant after successful payment of a security deposit for a rental property. Some States require a security deposit receipt that includes the name of the bank institution and the account number where the funds are located. Massachusetts goes a step further and requires that the landlord pay interest in the deposited amount. Once issued, the receipt should be kept by the tenant until the end of the lease term.
