A Maine rent-to-own lease agreement is a contract between a landlord and a tenant for the lease of a property that includes an option to purchase the property. Tenants and landlords can negotiate terms including price and when the option will become available. Rent-to-own arrangements are often found in situations with long-lasting tenants in a home or apartment. Landlords may be able to receive a premium in the rental rate in return for including the option to purchase the property in the future.
